Dom Perignon is only ever declared as a vintage champagne, and as such can only be found in exceptional years. 2009 is particularly interesting as it is the first of this prestige cuvee to be released out of chronological order, coming before the 2008. This is due to the warmth and maturity of 2009 in comparison to the cooler, classic 2008 which hasn't matured yet. As a result of the warm summer the 2009 is a magnificent champagne which was picked in ideal conditions and is reminiscent of another warm vintage year, 2003.
It is a champagne that encouraged the winemakers to go beyond what they already know, creating a fantastic unique wine which is fleshy and deeply flavoured but maintains a fresh balance.
