The expression of a single year captured by Krug. Krug only declares a single year vintage in years of outstanding quality and 2004 was a great year in Champagne with favourable weather helping the grapes to fully ripen creating wine with distinct character. In order to present this vintage at its best it has been carefully aged, overseen by expert Chef de Caves Eric Lebel for over 10 years until judged perfect to release. 2004 represents a trilogy of vintages for Krug and there will definitely not be a 2005.
This is a lovely pure elegant champagne with a savoury nose and a delicious rich palate or baked apples and lemon meringue complimenting the ginger, candied citrus and quince aromas perfectly. This is a wine which will evolve wonderfully over the next few years. Olivier Krug himself declared that 2004 is a wine with wonderful potential. Chef de Caves Eric Lebel added his thoughts: For Krug, the year 2004 gave birth to highly expressive, bright, undeniably elegant and discreet wines with a shining structure.
