Tyrrell's Wines are, in the best style of the Old World, a wonderfully traditional family-owned vineyard. Begun in the very early stages of the Australian wine story in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, the descendent of Sir Walter Tyrrell, who killed King William Rufus, the family is now into its fifth generation.
Perhaps Australia's most successful wine family, Tyrrell's have won countless awards by adhering to the simply philosophy of their founder; "nothing is great unless it is good.'" The vineyards of Hunter Valley are the home of Tyrrell's, and the spectacular vineyards 'amongst the best in the Southern Hemisphere' offer out some truly spectacular Semillon and Shiraz vines.
A pioneer of the Hunter Valley, today Tyrrell's still sets the benchmark for this region, their VAT 47 (the first commercial chardonnay produced in Australia) is arguably the country's finest.
A wine with a wonderful core of pineapple, poached apricot and toasted tropical fruit with the subtle underlying oak giving the wine lift and structure with a clean, crisp, fresh very long finish. The wine has an extra layer of texture or flintiness.
