Tignanello was the wine that started the Tuscan revolution, creating the Super Tuscan genre ' wines considered amongst the best in the world.' Whilst some of the Super Tuscans have lost sight of their origins, Tignanello remains quintessentially Tuscan. Although being 80% Sangiovese and 10% each Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon it could now be classified Chianti Classico (they changed the rules following Tignanellos success!)

Antinori proudly prefer to retain the more humble IGT Toscana label to which the wine was initially banished when Piero Antinori first produced it in the 1970s. The wine itself has amazing depth and finesse with gentle tannins. It opens with fragrant floral aromas, red berry and spices, before the palate delves deeper to deep dark cherry, raspberry, clove tobacco, balsamic, summer herbs, liquorice and cedar wood from the oak aging.

Antinori

The Antinori Family are amongst the most respected winemakers in the world. With a history of winemaking beginning in 1385, the 6 centuries of family knowledge means they know a thing or two about making outstanding wines.

In 1970 Antinori revolutionised the Italian wine scene when, ignoring the strict rules governing Chianti, they decided to make a wine outside of the appellation. The legendary Tignanello was born. Initially branded a traitor, Piero Antinori is now recognised as one of the men who resurrected the Italian wine industry following the hard years after the Second World War.

From their base in Tuscany the family has expanded its vineyard holdings bringing its expertise to regions ranging from Piedmont in the North, to Puglia in Italy’s heel, where they continue the family legacy of producing top of the range wines. The Antinori Family are members of the esteemed Primum Familae Vini group (PFV), a group of the very best family-owned wineries from around the world.
