Burgundian in style, the grapes for this wine come from the first vineyard Pio Cesare planted with Chardonnay in 1980. Leading Bordeaux consultant Denis Dubourdieu has been working with Pio Cesare, raising excitement around it and even James Suckling has described it as "This is a very opulent style with intense white-truffle, yogurt and cooked-apple character. Full and intense. Layers of fruit and character. If you like sexy chardonnay from Italy, go for this."
The grapes are harvested late and then aged in barrel for 16 months, 10 of which are on the lees, adding a creamy nutty complexity. This is a spicy, creamy, intense and persistent wine. There is sweet, warm and ripe fruit, and the wine remains fresh with a long mineral finish. There is a long ageing potential for this wine.
