Marques de Murrieta began producing this super-premium cuvee in 1995. It stands out for its blend, which includes 15% Cabernet Sauvignon (the maximum allowed by law) and also for its ageing process, which sees the wine aged in small French barriques for 19 months, rather than the American oak normally used in rioja.
Marques de Murrieta believe 2012 to be a fantastic vintage for them. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from 56 year old vines, which you can taste in the smoky notes and earthy, peat like minerality. The oak imparts beautiful cigar box and cedar wood aromas which enhances the fabulous dark concentrated fruits and dark chocolate notes. The wine has a lovely creamy texture and velvety tannins.
Dalmau has been described as hedonistic, which we think is rather apt for this powerful wine!
