From a selection of the oldest plots of the Hugel estate this is a wine that connoisseurs savour. The bouquet is light and airy, elegant, fresh and distinguished, nicely perfumed and aromatic, yet not heavy or invasive. All the nuances of a young Gewurztrzaminer are displayed deftly, without over-ripeness: flowers (white rose, jasmine, frangipane, almond blossom, lily) and fruit (pineapple, mango, passion fruit, kumbawa, bergamot).

On the palate it is a fine example of harmony and balance, an impressively subtle wine, softly vigourous, velvety, rich and generous yet with an elegant, fresh finish. A little touch of ripe acidity is an invitation to succomb to the charms of this wine, whose finish is as perfumed as its bouquet. This is a serious wine, that lays bare the art of the winemaker who knows how to let the grapes express, naturally, their quality and character.

Hugel

The Hugel family are intrinsically ingrained into the very soil of Alsace; they have been in the area since the 15th Century and have been key figures in rebuilding Alsace after The Thirty Years War, the French Revolution and the two World Wars.

Hugel wines have a rarefied nature, gifted to them by the incredible growing conditions of the region; the geology of the Alsace means there is a plethora of differing soil types, allowing growers to influence their wines with the effects of different terroirs. As well as the soil, the dry nature of Alsace – a result of the distance from the sea and the protection offered by the Vosges mountains – allows the grapes to ripen slowly, creating wines of true dignity.
