Cardinale is a selection of the best fruit from the Jackson Family's six prime vineyards across Napa Valley. The rocky soils and the steep exposed nature of the vines produce complex, structured wines, which winemaker Christopher Carpenter expertly blends these complex layers to create a wine of some distinction. Each of the six vineyards bring something different and special to the wine, creating a fabulously diverse and rounded wine whose qualities keep developing and evolving:
Howell Mountain brings gravelly dark fruit, herb and texture. Mount Veeder the structure, floral elements, minerality, blue fruit and length. Diamond Mountain juicy dark and red fruit and freshness. Spring Mountain the lovely floral character and pinpointed tannins. Oakville the bolder tannins texture and weight.
Robert Parker waxed lyrical about the 2008 Cardinale: The 2008 exhibits a dense purple color along with sweet kirsch, unsmoked cigar tobacco, toasty oak and black currant characteristics. The wine hits the palate with a resounding opulence, full-bodied richness, moderate, sweet, well-integrated tannins and a long, heady finish.
