This wine comes from Swartland, which means 'black land' due to the black Renosterbos bushes that dominate the landscape - hence the wine's name. Swartland is now at the forefront of a new wave of South African wine making, with the area's searing heat allowing young winemakers to make fantastic wines with grapes not normally associated with South Africa.
A fantastic wine, opening with a dark, brooding nose that gives you an early idea of the impending spice. What you don't expect is the lightness of touch, the silky soft texture and such well refined, easy-going tannins in a red this young. Utterly spectacular.
